As you might expect from one of the world’s greatest cities, Chicago is home to architectural marvels, an award-winning dining scene, innovative museums, and stunning lakefront views. Ever since I moved here more than 20 years ago, I have been continually impressed by the city’s rich cultural offerings.

The largest city in the Midwest has also grown to include many charming hotels, from intimate boutiques to world-famous luxury. There is a large selection of accommodation for business travelers, luxury seekers, families and all types of tourists.

Loop Hotels Are The Best In Chicago: Readers’ Choice Awards 2018

Our selection of top Chicago hotels includes a vintage group found in prime locations. Choose Airbnb? Here are some of our favorite cheap Airbnbs in Chicago.

Furnished rooms feel utilitarian yet modern, and some come with their own turntable or guitar. Trip Advisor Book Ace Hotel Chicago

Pros: Ace Chicago is surrounded by some of the best restaurants in the city, from James Beard and Michelin award-winning chefs to the winners of the TV show, Top Chef.

Cons: If you prefer a plush and luxurious vibe, Ace’s pared-down utilitarian feel might not cut it.

Best Hotels In Chicago For Families (2023) All Ages Love!

Minimal, yet modern and sophisticated, Ace Hotel Chicago speaks to hip business travelers and locals looking for a great West Loop base.

The West Loop is one of Chicago’s coolest neighborhoods, and the entire hotel seems to channel that feeling. The rooms are purposefully utilitarian (a hallmark of the Ace brand) yet very comfortable, and some even come with their own turntable or guitar. After my stay, I’m still thinking about the heart-stealing ideas from my east room and rooftop.

Pros: The on-site Commons Club is a nice hybrid bar, lounge, and workspace that doesn’t feel like a hotel at all. The rooftop lounge offers panoramic views of the skyline, which feels like an added benefit.

Cons: The hotel is noisy. It’s close to the El tracks and you can hear the trains go by, and the music from the rooftop bar filters through to the upstairs rooms.

The Best New Hotels In Chicago Of 2021 And 2022

Created by Sir Richard Branson, the very first of the Virgin Hotels opened in Chicago in 2015 inside the old Dearborn Bank building. Steps from Michigan Avenue in Chicago’s Loop, the downtown boutique hotel offers a fresh approach to modern luxury, catering to young business types and tech-savvy travelers. An app is used for check-in, room service requests (which are actually handled through delivery services like DoorDash), and it also serves as your TV remote control.

Each room (they call them chambers) in the 26-story hotel is divided into two, with a large dressing area, closet space and shower separated from the sleeping area by a sliding set of privacy doors. The vibe is cool and no-nonsense. I like the fact that Virgin has no hidden fees and they offer “street level” prices for minibar items and videos on demand, unlike those found in similar high-end hotels.

The rooftop terrace is the largest in the city. Loews Chicago Loews Chicago Hotel Book

Pros: Everything looks and feels new with rooms and public spaces that are clean, modern and spacious. The hotel is just steps from the Chicago River Walk.

The 10 Best Hotels In Downtown / The Loop Chicago, Il For 2023 (from $90)

Cons: If you want to walk right out the door and find lots of restaurants and shops, the hotel may feel a little off the beaten path since it’s a few blocks down Michigan Avenue.

The Loews Chicago hotel is housed in a 52-story glass and steel tower and is favored by business travelers who eschew stuffy or traditional hotels for one that favors a clean, sophisticated approach. Unlike many Chicago hotels that are set in restored historic buildings, I love the newness of the Louis. The spacious public spaces feel contemporary, and the rooms, while properly sized, still look airy.

I also love the large rooftop terrace (the largest in the city) and the 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness center and large indoor lap pool. Located one block from the Chicago River, the hotel is about a five-minute walk to Michigan Avenue.

The Chicago Athletic Association Hotel has some of the best immersive, themed decor in the city. Chicago Athletic Association Hotel Book Chicago Athletic Association Hotel

Readers’ Choice Awards: The Best Hotels In Chicago

On-site Amenities: Excellent on-site food and beverage including a superb rooftop restaurant, lobby bar, speakeasy cocktail lounge, and Shake Shack; Billiard room, golf swing suite

Pros: Gothic-inspired vintage design full of historic charm and character. The location across from Millennium Park also means great views of the park and lake.

Cons: The downtown location and setting within a historic building means rooms are smaller than expected. Also, the local popularity of area restaurants (especially Sandy’s Roof) can result in incredibly long wait times.

Originally the home of an elite men’s club, the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel Building is an architectural gem dating back to 1893. Converted into a boutique hotel in 2015, the lobby always gives me goosebumps with the Hogwarts aesthetic of Harvard.

Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park

The rooms play on the atmosphere, but it is relaxing rather than cooking. I often bring out-of-towners to Cindy’s Rooftop, an airy restaurant with a large outdoor terrace offering some of the best views of the city of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan.

The rooftop bar, the best in town, with 360 panoramic views and three levels. Travel Advisor Book London House Chicago

Pros: You can stay in a beautiful posh for around $100 a night in low season. You can’t beat the location, amenities like a fitness center and full spa, and the most impressive views from the rooftop bar.

Cons: Due to its popularity with locals, Bam can get unexpectedly busy in the summer with long waits. If you are booking just for this feature, be patient with access.

Special Offers For Luxury Hotels In Chicago

After I stayed at London House Chicago, I consider it one of my favorite hotels in the city. The hotel is located just steps from the corner of Michigan Avenue and Wicker Drive in a historic Chicago building, the former London Insurance and Accident Building.

Many of the luxurious rooms at this Hilton Curio Collection property overlook the Chicago River, and I highly recommend my Vista Suite for prime river views and comfortable accommodations. The real scene stealer though is the rooftop bar, arguably the best in town with 360 panoramic views and three levels, topped by a columned cupola – expect to witness daily wedding proposals in the summer. become

The sleek design combines with Kempton’s signature standout perks like happy hour and pet amenities. Trip Advisor Book Kempton Gray Hotel

Pros: The location is perfect for business travelers and those who need to be in the heart of the Loop and Financial District. Fitness enthusiasts will love that all rooms come with yoga mats, bicycles are free to use, and the on-site fitness center is equipped with all the latest equipment, including Peloton bikes.

Kid Friendly Chicago Hotels To Book Now

Cons: If you stay on the weekend, it can feel a little scary in the Loop, which needs to be done by the workweek crowd. Many restaurants will be closed nearby.

Nestled among the skyscrapers of the Loop, the Kempton Gray Hotel is ideal for the city’s business travelers but it’s far from the cookie-cutter business hotels you might expect. Officially known as the New York Life Insurance Building, the landmark building dates back to 1894. The hotel retains its name from the Georgian gray marble, which is found throughout much of the restored interior.

IHG properties eagerly combine such historic features with contemporary styled guest rooms with crisp furnishings. Upgrade to a King Spa room for a walk-in shower and separate soaking tub, which is great after a long day at work.

We love the social atmosphere of the complimentary evening wine hour in the lobby, an IHG hallmark. Head up to Argentina’s lively rooftop lounge with a huge retractable roof. It’s a great after-work spot for entertaining clients.

Hotels In Chicago That Don’t Break The Bank

Open showers are not for the faint of heart, but don’t worry, there is a privacy curtain. Tripadvisor Book Hotel EMC2

Pros: Unexpected decorations and fun robots are a treat for kids (and kids at heart). Plus it’s walking distance to the famous Magnificent Mile, the theater district, and a bounty of shops and restaurants.

Cons: Some will find a glass-enclosed shower in the middle of the room, while others
