Best Place To Eat In Brenham Tx – Located on a quiet stretch of Highway 290 between Austin and Houston, historic downtown Brenham is changing. In 1861, when local attorney J.D. Giddings helped build the Washington State Railroad between Houston and the Texas Central Station in Hempstead, it’s always filled with a certain energy. Brenham is home to Blinn College and, of course, Bluebell Creameries. The college-town sensibility is evident in the large-scale, intricate murals of armadillos and pink grizzly bears spread across 22 downtown blocks. Things were sleepy for a while, but now this city of just under 17,000 has an interesting mix of the traditional and the new. There are new Instagram-savvy retailers like The Ballad of Bird Dog, new restaurant and bar concepts, but also old-timers like Hermann Furniture, Texas’ oldest furniture store. Out front is 96 West, a modern tapas bar with sidewalk cafe tables, but after 18 years in business, the wildly fun Funky Art Cafe still draws packed houses. A walking tour of these charming streets explores the old and the new as you browse the affordable art of local artists, hunt for treasures in the vast (and well-stocked) antique shops, and dine at new and classic eateries with charming interiors. Here are five must-stops along the way.
Early last year, Shannan and Junior Canales (whose family owns BT Longhorn Steakhouse downtown) opened this upscale Latin American spot. On the menu: picadillo empanadas, sea bass with Patagonia wine sauce, and churro French toast for breakfast.
