Best Place To Eat In Oahu
ARVO may mean ‘afternoon’ in Aussie slang, but this trendy plant-based cafe tops our breakfast list. It is open from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and can be quite busy, especially on weekends. If you want to avoid the crowds, we recommend arriving early in the morning or between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
A Foodie’s Guide To Waikiki
Off-menu favorites include Nutella Toast, Smoked Salmon Toast, Avocado Toast, Fresh Orange Juice, and Charcoal Latte. You can find ARVO at SALT At Our Kaka’ako, one of Honolulu’s most charming malls. If you don’t like this cafe, visit the nearest restaurant, Highway Inn Kaka’ako.
Yes, breakfast at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel is more of a tourist experience than a local experience; however, we think it’s important to combine both! Besides, what could be nicer to cook than pink pancakes?
If you’re staying at Waikiki Beach and want to splurge on a more delicious breakfast on the beach, don’t miss Surf Lanai. Open every morning from 6:30am to 10:30am, this Oahu restaurant is worth visiting at least once while on the island.
The Surf Lanai menu includes the Pink Palace Pancake, Eggs Any Style, Short Rib Eggs Benedict, Avocado Tomato Benedict and more. You can view the full menu on their website here.
Best Restaurants In Waikiki (2022)
Located on the second floor of the Beachcomber Waikiki, Hawaiian Aroma Caffe serves signature waffles, acai bowls, paninis, and more. While the Waikiki area can sometimes feel “commercial”, this amazing cafe will make you feel like you’ve found a more intimate breakfast spot.
Note that Hawaiian Aroma Caffe is not only a great place to start the day, but also a good place to end the day! They are open until 10pm and even serve signature Okole Maluna cocktails. Our favorite was the Lost in Waikiki drink, which is like a grown-up version of the Capri Sun.
Honolulu Coffee is the place to go if you’re looking for a local takeaway version of a coffee shop! Several locations are scattered throughout Honolulu, including inside Ala Moana Center, Sheraton Waikiki, Moana Surfrider and Prince Waikiki.
Although this cafe is expensive, it was some of the best Kona coffee we had on Oahu. In particular, if you are a fan of aromatic coffee, you will love the Hawaiian Latte! This delicious drink contains coconut and macadamia syrup. If you want to save time by skipping the line, you can order online here.
Best Of Oahu 2018: food & Drink
Celebrity chef Lee Ann Wong (native of New York) creates a unique Asian fusion brunch at Koko Head. This is one of the best places to eat in Honolulu, so be prepared to wait – if you’re looking for a quick breakfast, this probably isn’t the place for you!
Although the wait and parking situation can be frustrating, Koko Head Cafe is famous for its flavorful Asian fusion cuisine. Guests’ favorites include Koko Moko, Chicky & Eggs, Breakfast Bimbimpap and Don Buri Chen Pork Pot.
Sunrise Shack has five locations on Oahu: Sunset Beach, Shark’s Cove, Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, Kailua and Ala Moana Center (coming soon). If you go to the North Shore while on Oahu, the best place to stay is the quaint shack across from Sunset Beach. Enjoy coffee, flavored smoothie bowls, juices and other snacks, then spend time in the sand!
Smoothie bowls are super colorful and Instagrammable. Our favorite is the Tropical Bowl, followed by the Jungle Matcha Bowl. Having trouble deciding what to buy? You can view the full menu here. The Sunrise Shack also has adorable merchandise if you’re looking for the perfect souvenir!
Best North Shore Oahu Restaurants
Beet Box Cafe is a vegetarian/vegan cafe serving breakfast and lunch throughout the day (starting at 11am). Its two locations, in Haleiwa and Kailua, are open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you’re craving breakfast, the beet box burrito, breakfast sandwich, and avocado toast are popular choices.
If you decide to go for lunch, the Thai tacos are great! Or you can always opt for a delicious acai bowl. Click here to view the full menu. We highly recommend The Beet Box Cafe if you’re looking for a great vegetarian/vegan option on Oahu.
Haleiwa Bowls is located in a charming shack along Kamehameha Highway in the town of Haleiwa on the North Shore. More importantly, it’s home to the best acai bowls on Oahu. Haleiwa Bowls offers a variety of bowls, smoothies, coffee and tea and is one of the most affordable breakfast spots on this list.
For example, a small acai bowl costs between $8 and $11, and a large bowl costs between $11 and $14. Plus, you can add your favorite toppings, including different fruits and bee pollen, hemp seeds, almond butter, coconut, honey, and more.
Oahu, Hawaii 2023
If possible, we recommend going to Haleiwa Bowls during the week as the place can get busy on the weekends. A small parking lot is right behind the shack to make things easier!
If you’re planning to spend time on Oahu’s windward coast (the east side of the island), you won’t want to miss Over Easy in Kailua. This sunny spot serves breakfast all day and lunch is available after 11am. Especially for brunch, guests love the fried egg sandwich (served on homemade sourdough) and Kalua pork dishes.
Please note that this restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and does not accept reservations. However, you can add your party to the pre-call list if you arrive at Over Easy within 30 minutes.
Looking for fresh and affordable poke in Waikiki? You’ll find this local establishment just two blocks from all the sun and fun of Waikiki Beach and close to all the major hotels. Although there is usually a wait, the line moves quickly. Maguro Spot opens at 10:00 and closes at 20:30.
Hawaii Travel Tips & Guides
In our opinion, Maguro Spot has the best poke in Honolulu and one of the best places to eat in Waikiki. Plus, we love that you can customize your poke bowl here. For example, you can choose a menu option OR choose tuna, salmon, marlin or shrimp and choose rice, toppings and sauces.
Surprisingly, you can find some of the best poke on Oahu at the Foodland supermarket chain. Smaller shops will only have pre-made pokes to choose from, such as spicy ahi poke and shoyu ahi poke. At the same time, supermarkets offer both pre-mixed and ready-made products.
If you went to Hawaii without trying Spam Musubi, did you really go to Hawaii? We know Spam on a bed of rice may sound unappealing, but we promise you it’s delicious. Whether it’s your first time trying musubi or not, Musubi Cafe IYASUME is a great place to pick up these delicious snacks.
This restaurant serves an incredible variety of musubi, such as Spam Musubi with Avocado and Bacon Eggs, Spam Musubi with Eel Egg, Spam Musubi with Takuan Pickles, and even Spam Musubi with Plum Cucumbers. In addition, it has seven different locations around the Waikiki area.
Fun And Romantic Places To Eat On Oahu
Many locals claim that Ono Seafood is one of the best restaurants on Oahu, but we guess you’ll have to visit to decide for yourself! Since Ono is one of the best places for premium Pokeballs in the area, you can expect a line. Since there are only a few benches in the restaurant, we advise you to take food with you.
If you’re not sure what you should buy, you can always ask for suggestions based on the flavors you like. For example, if you want a spicy taste, ahi tuna, octopus, etc.
Note that each poke bowl comes with a drink so it’s a great value! The only downside is that parking can be difficult. There are only a few parking spaces for the restaurant, and they are all right next to the apartment building. With this in mind, you can walk if possible.
Rainbow Drive-In is best known as a great place for Hawaiian comfort food! While there are five locations on Oahu, you’ll most likely visit Kapahulu (the original) if you’re staying in Waikiki. Each dinner plate includes two spoons of rice (you can substitute French fries) and one spoon of poppy seed salad (you can substitute coleslaw).

If you have trouble choosing, we recommend trying Loco Moco! This modern Hawaiian dish consists of two hamburger patties served on a bed of rice
