Luxury and Florida don’t usually go hand in hand – and if you think outside of Miami and the Miami Beach area (with an incredible amount of luxury accommodation options), then you’ll have to dig a little deeper.

Best Florida Keys Hotels To Visit In 2018

As always, I can only recommend the places I’ve visited – and this is by no means an exhaustive list. Many other magazine-like resources are available on the web, but my blog would be pointless if I added hotels to a list based on hearsay.

So while this list is limited – it does indeed include where I’ve lived I will add more options for luxury and boutique hotels in Florida here when I return

The St. Regis in Bal Harbor is one of our classic Florida beaches – and the location is just perfect for us. Bal Harbor is located 15-20 minutes north of Miami Beach which means it’s great and close enough to get out for dinner and some shopping. What we’ve discovered in our last 3 stays is that there are more local dining options in the area which means you can literally stay local.

Across the street from the hotel, you’ll find Bal Harbor Mall, probably the best luxury shopping center in Florida (and possibly the United States), which comes with some great restaurants. But in Aventura, apart from the mall (which is great), you’ll also find great dining options

The rooms at the St. Regis Bal Harbor (book here ) are still well appointed, the sandy beach is stunning and it’s the perfect base for a quiet Miami vacation which is key for us, and really what we enjoy.

Accommodation in the Florida Keys is changing and you can find fewer and fewer kits these days We’ve always wanted to go, but in all honesty, every time I looked at a place to stay, I’d be inspired — and often, put off visiting because it seemed so pointless.

However, a handful of really nice new places have opened on the beautiful beaches in the Florida Keys, and in 2019 we discovered Isla Bella and would happily return. Beautifully designed, I would happily recommend a stay at Isla Bella if you are visiting the Florida Keys. The downside is that it markets itself as a beach resort… but doesn’t have an actual beach, which is a shame. There are many outdoor swimming pools but…

We weren’t really familiar with the “Keys” and had never heard of Marathon before, and it’s halfway between the mainland and Key West (which we haven’t visited yet).

Naples is such an affluent area of ​​Florida – but I found it lacking in luxury hotel offerings, which was a shame.

We stayed at the Grand Dame of Naples, the Ritz-Carlton, and felt it needed a little facelift. For the room rate it charges, I personally didn’t think it was worth it The luxury part of the experience was pretty watered down – and that makes no sense since the Ritz Carlton (check availability) offers great beach experiences elsewhere, so they know how it’s done.

Until the hotel is upgraded, I think vacation rentals are the way to go in the area (and there are some really awesome ones we found on Airbnb and other similar websites).

In 2020, on my first visit to Florida before the Covid-19 pandemic (and our very lockdown), I went to Florida alone.

I basically wanted a place where I could have a nice room, enjoy the beach, do reformer Pilates and other fitness classes without leaving the hotel, go out and see some friends for dinner (when I don’t mind the beach by myself). ) and also enjoy a spot of shopping I searched all over the world for this combination and found it in Florida, and I got on a plane 2 days later. Some extensive google searching led to the Carilion Wellness Resort & Spa which I understand is Cannon Ranch. It gave me peace of mind It is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World (which doesn’t mean the world, but it means something). I had never heard or read about this hotel before, so I needed some reassurance

Carillion Wellness Resort & Spa was truly amazing – the rooms are great (all suites, which means you have extra space), the service was spot on and I loved the exercise classes. I did reformer Pilates every day, I tried Zumba and loved it, even tried some belly dancing (which was quite a challenge). While Sarasota is on the water, it doesn’t have an actual beach (this is especially important for my non-American readers, who will have one thing in mind when visiting Florida: beaches, of course).

Where To Stay In Florida Keys

If you book a stay at the Ritz-Carlton, you get access to its beach club at Lido Key which was really nice. It is located 10 minutes away on the island itself (car accessible) and worked well The set up was a bit basic (like Naples which is very average sun lounger), but the service was very nice and the restaurant was good (and slightly more upmarket).

Loved the hotel’s setting with Sarasota and its restaurant and bar, which was really lively. The rooms have been recently updated and the service was good when we visited

Probably one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at in the US – and there are more than a handful to choose from The four seasons at Surfside are fantastic – and I wouldn’t even consider staying anywhere else in the area… except that it has just under 80 rooms and is almost always booked for romantic breaks and luxury vacations. (It’s a stone’s throw from the St. Regis Bal Harbor and near The Carillon

It’s almost a boutique Four Seasons (check out room) and really special and I honestly don’t think there’s a better hotel in the area – the location was just too good for me (and how I like to spend time in the area) and I like it enough. Can’t recommend It’s impossible to find a room under $1000, so keep that in mind
