A Local’s Guide To Yellowstone National Park

For a more adventurous experience near Yellowstone National Park, try the Best Western From Mammoth Hot Springs in Gardiner. The Best Western Yellowstone is just what you’d expect from a Best Western – flat screen TVs, WiFi, clean rooms, a swimming pool, and free breakfast.

If, like us, you love relaxing vacations when you travel, you’re in luck. Gardiner is chock full of vacation spots. A few good things about choosing a home or condo as your location near Yellowstone National Park are the ability to cook or prepare meals there and have a great place to kick back and relax from the adventure.

There are rustic cabins away from it all and brand new buildings in the village. You can find them on the VRBO website – put them in your Yellowstone vacation to get the best price.

When you plan to visit Yellowstone National Park, where to stay can be a difficult decision. Silver Gate is one of my favorite places to rent a Yellowstone home. It’s a bit far from Old Faithful and the big Yellowstone attractions, but it’s a mountain you’ll never forget. For wildlife and wilderness lovers, it is the place.

That’s why it’s my favorite place to stay near Yellowstone. We always see wildlife in the area. You can see moose, bison, bear, mountain goats and other animals in the city – or from our window. And you are within walking distance of the Lamar Valley and its wolves, elk, bison, bears, coyotes, and more.

Silver Gate is just outside the Northeast entrance to the park and Cooke City is six miles away. Silver Gate is super small and Cooke City is not very big. The area is a great place to look for cabins near Yellowstone National Park.

During the winter, wolf watchers know where to stay near Yellowstone ahead of the events in the Lamar Valley – Silver Gate or Cooke City. In the summer, it’s also a great place to access wildlife in the Lamar Valley, but also drive the Beartooth Highway to Red Lodge or the Chief Joseph Highway to Cody.

Every fall, my friend and I stay in one of the Yellowstone hotels. Our friend Jeff built both of the Lamar Valley Cabins himself and they were designed and decorated by his wife. They are simple, but roomy; cozy and well appointed. My favorite thing is to wake up and look at the mountains out the bedroom window.

Best Airports Near Yellowstone For Us + International Visitors

There are two options for lodging near Yellowstone Park in Lamar Valley Cabins: The Lamar (this is where we usually stay) and Silver Falls.

There are several hotels near Yellowstone to be found in Cooke City, including Super 8, Soda Butte Lodge, and Alpine Motel. None of them are good, but they are all good. If all you are thinking about is finding a hotel in the Yellowstone National Park area, they will work. They are not like Lamar Valley Cabins where the hotel is part of the stay, but they serve as a base for getting away.

For a place to stay while visiting Yellowstone, East Entrance, Cody can be a good choice. One thing to know about Cody is that it is about an hour’s drive to the Yellowstone East Entrance and then another 50 minutes to the Fishing Bridge Observatory on Yellowstone Lake. For Old Faithful, it’s almost three hours from Cody.

That being said, there is plenty to do in and around Cody. You can ride horses, visit a man’s ranch, tour the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, watch the shooting on Main Street, and many other Western entertainment.

It may not be the best place to stay near Yellowstone National Park if all you want to do is tour the park. Honestly, there’s so much to see, though, that I think it’s worth it.

There are many things to do in Cody, Wyoming without going to the park. You can start your vacation there and then move on to Yellowstone.

When we needed a hotel around Yellowstone National Park and wanted to stay in Cody, we stayed at Irma. It’s a cool, historic hotel with a true Western feel.

The historic Irma hosts Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show trial and Europeans who have a headquarters for hunting. The history of the hotel has 15 renovated rooms where some of the most famous people in the world have known. We found our room a bit clanky (see video!). However, we think it’s a fun place to live.

You can stay in Buffalo Bill’s private suite, or in one of the other historic or non-historic rooms, all with new amenities.

Honestly, there aren’t many Yellowstone South hotels accessible. That’s because Roosevelt Parkway and then Grand Teton National Park are immediately adjacent to the South Entrance. That’s awesome, of course, because it means more public land to explore.
