Opening delayed a year by the pandemic, the 27-story, 203-room hotel on 48th Street, just west of Eighth Avenue, will be steps from the Walter Kerr and Longacre theaters, home of “Hadestown” and “Diana.”

What will Civilian be like on Broadway? Tony-winning set designer Tony Walton and others have created sketches of each of the 41 Broadway theaters, to be incorporated into custom sconces throughout the first floor.

And framed costume designs by William Ivey Long will adorn each guest room, which – at 150 square meters for “cosy” and 260 for “spacious” – is bound to remind some of backstage wardrobes.
