Despite tons of western eateries popping up all over, it’s hard to find ones that serve affordable eats. Ivan’s Carbina, located in a kopitiam in Woodlands, does just that. It has a massive menu that offers all kinds of western dishes, but what caught our attention was the rosti that comes with a big and crispy chicken cutlet.

The Roesti + Chicken Cutlet ($7.80) was the main feature and boy did it blow our minds. The chicken stole the show in this dish. In addition to being much larger than we hoped for, it was extremely brittle and made an audible crunch as I sawed into it.

The Reason We Are So Rich Is That There Are So Many Of Us

The meat was juicy and tender, dripping with juices as it was cut. The chicken was a little salty, but not overpowering, and stayed firm and crispy even after sitting out for half an hour. It went well with the mushroom sauce that came with it, but was also wonderful when eaten on its own.

The rosti, on the other hand, was underwhelming. It was a bit mushy and not as crispy as we had hoped. The seasoning was also quite dry. However, it came with sour cream that had a splash of lemon, which I found refreshing.

We also ordered the Carbonara ($5.50). The pasta, cooked al dente, was generously packed with bacon, mushrooms and topped with parmesan. The cream sauce was just right, not too rich or cloying, but not too thin either.

We finished with an Air Flown Ribeye Steak ($12.80). Despite being the most expensive item we ordered, it was surprisingly the one we liked the least.

The steak was cooked unevenly, with some parts being overcooked and tough to chew while others were extremely pink. It was also too salty for our taste, as was the black pepper sauce it came with. Although the black pepper was visible in the sauce, it wasn’t very sharp either. Overall, it made for a difficult dish to finish.

However, the mashed potatoes were soft, airy and generously seasoned with garlic. We wolfed this down in a heartbeat and would definitely come back for it – perhaps as a side to another main course.

Located in Lucky Star Coffee Shop, Ivan’s Carbina looks like any other western stall in any other kopitiam. Just a 10-minute walk from Woodlands MRT station, you can expect a bustling lunchtime crowd and the typical Singapore heat. Although Ivan’s Carbina was quite popular when we were there, the staff were friendly and the service was efficient so we didn’t have to wait too long for our meal.

Decent Western food at cheap prices is hard to come by, but Ivan’s Carbina does just that. While the dishes weren’t overwhelming, they were worth the price and we’d recommend checking out their extensive menu if you’re in the neighborhood.

I blocked them on Shopee because they keep spamming me if I order (well how can you if your items look so dodgy and your answers are so roundabout) and because they only revealed to me that all their phones are unsealed AFTER i paid even though they kept saying ok when i asked/confirmed if it’s sealed.

It is a known problem. must send in service center for motherboard replacement if still under warranty. My device was also like this, after turning it off manually, it can’t turn on after that.
