Closest Spa To My Location – Sentosa Resort is the closest I can get to feeling like I’m overseas at the moment and so I planned to stay at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa after my recent stay at Raffles Singapore. The Accor property is located next to the Sentosa Golf Club, and has beautiful landscaping and lush vegetation around the resort. I was excited to check out the post circuit breaker in Singapore as it was my first time staying at this Sofitel, where I booked a Luxury Room.

My check-in process was smooth and I arrived before 11am, and to my surprise my room was ready. The hotel rooms are mainly located in two wings, Peace and Tranquility. The Peace wing is close to the pool, The Cliff and the makeshift gym and I was glad that my room was assigned to the Peace wing.

In terms of property design, I like the fact that there is greenery, no tall buildings and peacocks roaming free in the hotel area. It takes a bit of Singapore out of my mind, although the peacocks remind me of Capella too.

The room I entered was a 36sqm Luxury Room in the Peace Wing on level 5. My first thought was that the room was starting to show signs of aging, due to the interior design of the room as well. The gold leaf patterns above the room look dated, and it doesn’t mean luxury to me. It’s not helped by the seemingly random study table and chair in the room.

The room comes with a king-size bed, with charging points on either side of the bed. The small wardrobe in the bedroom has a small fridge, and Nespresso capsules and TWG tea bags are packed in a separate bag as part of security measures during this period.

There was also a small amenity kit at the work desk, which contained hand sanitizers and a kit of wipes. It’s a good gesture for a visitor, and Raffles Singapore has a similar and elegant restaurant package during my stay last month.

The size of the bathroom for the Deluxe Room is good, with a separate bath and shower. Similarly, shower gels and bathroom accessories are hidden in a separate bag as part of a safe measure.

Facilities The main pool is undoubtedly one of the selling points of the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, which is one of the rare hotels in Singapore where you don’t see any high rise buildings from the pool.

Each pool position is 2 hours in this period, and the length of the pool is suitable for lap swimming, with a depth of up to 2.5 meters. Yes, you read that right, a 2.5 meter deep swimming pool. Dive in, and swim away from our busy city life.

The gym, SoFit, is currently a temporary location along The Cliff. It used to be housed in SoSpa, but I understand it is currently undergoing renovations. The temporary gymnasium container space is currently fully equipped, although it can only accommodate 5 people and no advance booking of gym spaces is required. There is also no waiting list system, so guests may be at risk of being blocked or unable to use the gym during their stay if the facility is fully occupied.

I managed to check out the SoSpa during my stay and had a 60 minute tissue massage. Note that the SoSpa is not within the main resort area, and the hotel’s shuttle bus service can bring guests to the SoSpa. For spa guests, there are also facilities within the SoSpa complex such as the health cafe The Garden, an outdoor swimming pool, and jacuzzi facilities in the changing rooms.

I had a great massage and the service at SoSpa is very professional. Although the facility is not new, it is well maintained, and an afternoon spent at the facility was certainly an exciting one.

If you like nature walks, there is a small forest path beside the main pond that leads to Tanjong Beach.

Restaurants Located at the entrance of the property, Kwee Zeen is the main dining restaurant at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, where breakfast is served along with the hotel’s Sunday Champagne Brunch.

A note about the breakfast service is that each guest is entitled to only one breakfast, which includes coffee, fresh juice, a bread basket and fruit.

The breakfast menu is a mix of local delights like laksa, or go for the American breakfast I had. It’s definitely not the widest breakfast option, and I’m not used to just one breakfast setup. In comparison, breakfast at Raffles Singapore is all-you-can-eat.

I had a 3 course dinner at The Cliff during my stay, an Italian restaurant with indoor and outdoor tables overlooking the pool. Go for the outdoor tables where there is a cool evening breeze. The food is good Italian fare, and it’s the easiest option for visitors who are too lazy to leave.

I love the vibe at LeBar, where I had dinner and wine. The space at LeBar is very airy with ample space between each table. From the perspective, you can face the pool or water feature in the property which makes it a very soothing ambience.

Rants Communication between different desks could definitely be better. For example, I asked the receptionist about a reservation for the gym but she was unsure and directed me to contact the gym staff instead. When I was at the gym, I was told by the staff that no pre-booking for the gym is required. This is one small fact that I feel the front desk should be clear about.

I also experienced some upheavals in my dinner reservations at The Cliff. Long story short, it was all planned. I just wish that the restaurant staff could maintain a simpler attitude in meeting the needs of guests, and it is good for a luxury hotel brand to provide alternative solutions to guests’ requests. Isn’t that great service, especially for a luxury hotel?

Overall Experience I enjoy the ambiance and the resort, although I’m not a big fan of the interior design of the Luxury Room. Grab some sunscreen, relax by the pool, or stroll down to Tanjong Beach. That’s a chance!

Perhaps the closest to a public bath in Singapore, this independent spa complex is reminiscent of a Chinese hot spring resort. After entering, you are directed to the men’s or women’s side and given a locker – swimming trunks, clothes and towels are provided, so there is no need to bring anything. The changing rooms have a hot pool (plus a cold pool for men – supposedly improves blood circulation), a sauna and showers. In the common areas, you can relax on comfortable couches with private TV screens, and there’s also an all-you-can-eat buffet, making it easy to spend the day here (and worth the $68 entry price).
