If you haven’t heard of this place before, Koh Faber Nasi Lemak is a popular choice for hunting the rich food of Utram Park. While you’re there, get their B Set ($4), which comes with coconut rice, fried chicken wings, ota, egg, and a side of ikan bilis and peanuts. From personal experience, it’s hard to stop at just one chicken wing, especially when they’re deep fried. For a real hearty meal, add $2.50 for a crispy chicken stick or $1.30 for a crispy chicken wing. Other ingredients you can find include curry chicken, shrimp, and vegetables.

Call me a typical Singaporean, but kaya toast is my favorite breakfast. Tong Ah Eatery is one of my go-to places for a quick breakfast. Kaya’s traditional toast for just over $4.90 comes with toast, two hard-boiled eggs and a drink. If you prefer something other than traditional toast, they also have varieties like French toast with kaya, steamed bread with kaya, and thin crispy toast. In the evening, it transforms into a place to grab favorites like Claypot Chicken ($10+/$12+/$15+) and Egg Yolk String Beans ($10+/$12+/$15+).

Bao Makers takes your ordinary buns up a notch with their unusual flavors. One of my favorites was the Salmon Mentaiko Bao ($4.30), made from a thick slice of seared salmon fillet covered in charred mentaiko sauce and sandwiched in a steamed manto. Other varieties you can find include Chilli Crab Bao (+$4.50), Salted Chicken Bao ($4.30++), and Veggie Bao (+$3.80). Although two bagels will do a good job of filling your belly, the crab pasta (+$29) and chicken cheese volcano (+$13) are new items on the menu that are also worth trying.

Started as a cart stall in 1939, Ka-Soh Restaurant now has four branches across Southeast Asia and is listed in the Michelin Guide for Michelin Bib Gourmand 2018. Located a short distance from Utram Park MRT Station, this restaurant is best known for its Sliced Fish Noodle Soup ($8++/25++++++++++++++$)++++$48. On top of the substantial amount of fish slices, their creamy soup is remarkable, which is not obtained by adding milk, but by long hours of cooking. For side dishes, you can try the Shrimp Paste Chicken ($16++) and Fried Pork Ribs ($20++ / $30+).

For those late nights when you’re craving a steamboat, turn up the steamer. Open daily until 6 a.m., Steamov offers individual hot pots with a variety of soup bases for $5. Soup base options include mushroom and chicken pot, vegetarian duck pot, spicy pot, and more. As for ingredients, skewered items ($1) such as fish balls, lotus root and bean skins can be easily plucked from the conveyor belt in front of you.
