Is there such a thing as a budget Las Vegas Strip hotel? After testing several hotels, from cheap stays to luxury resorts, here are my suggestions to help you decide where to stay on the Las Vegas Strip, however much you want to spend.

But first, here are some tips to help you choose the best hotel in Las Vegas for you.

Las Vegas is a favorite destination for US weekend getaways, so you can often find bargains if you can get away on a Friday and Saturday night. I stayed at the Paris Las Vegas on a Thursday night and the same room for the next night quadrupled the price.

But it’s not just the days of the week that you need to factor in. Las Vegas doesn’t have a real peak season, but the city is extra busy around American holidays, especially between Christmas and New Year’s and during spring break. Then there are events – hotel prices can really go up if there’s a big show or convention in town, so check event listings as well.

Best Hotels In Las Vegas. Hotels From $52/night

There are more than 30 hotels located on the Las Vegas Strip, but not all Strip locations are created equal. The strip is four miles long, with hotels spread along its length, so if you’re staying just below one end you’ll have to make a long trek to reach the center or the other end.

Frequent Deuce buses run 24 hours along the Strip, costing $8 for 24 hours. But traffic can slow it down. So if you are limited on time and want to travel to a lot of places, it is better to pay a little extra to get a more convenient seat.

Even when you have selected a hotel and set the best dates, the same hotel may have different prices depending on where you look. I found a single room at the Bellagio on a weeknight in August ranging from $180/£135 to $240/£180 on different websites.

So it’s a good idea to shop around and try a few different booking sites as well as the hotel’s own website. If the prices are fairly similar, it’s often worth booking direct with the hotel, as there are many loyalty schemes where you can get discounts or freebies.

Most hotels in Las Vegas add a daily extra charge that is not included in the room rate, whether you book directly or through a booking site. Resort fees at hotels along the Strip range from $25–$45 a night before tax and you usually pay at the end of your stay.

Originally the fee was meant to cover extra services – and some hotels include extras such as airport shuttles, local phone calls or fitness facilities – but now it can be a covert way to increase profits. Some hotels are more upfront about their fees than others, but always double-check. For the hotels listed here, I’ve included the resort fee in the price calculation so it’s clear.

You might think that if your budget is tight you’ll have to stay at a hotel off the Strip – like The Westgate* – but with so much competition in Las Vegas, some resorts offer cheaper rooms in the hopes that guests will spend their Big in casino. So you can bargain.

Budget hotels in Las Vegas are usually located at one end of the Strip, such as the STRAT* (formerly Stratosphere) to the north. It’s located in a slightly craggy area and there’s not much to do, but it’s an easy two-mile bus ride to reach the central strip or Fremont Street. My STRAT ‘Select’ room had two queen beds and an en suite bathroom with shower. You don’t get too many extras, but the rooms are spacious and clean.

There are a few dining options at the casino, a microbrewery, grill, cafe and a Starbucks which is good for breakfast. There’s also a pool at the bottom of the tower (but there aren’t many sunbeds, so grab one early), in prime position to watch people jump in from the top. The resort fee is $36 per night, and hotel guests get half-price access to the tower observation deck (normally $25).

If you have a little more to spend, head to the vintage-style Tropicana* at the south end of the Strip. It’s one of the few original casinos from the 1950s, and although it’s been renovated by current owners Hilton, it still has a retro entrance – complete with vintage Chevy.

The inside is bright and airy done up in tropical ‘South Beach style’, with white walls adorned with greenery and flashes of orange. I stayed in a standard Paradise Tower room, but you can also upgrade to a poolside bungalow. All rooms have plantation-style shutters and rattan furniture to go with the theme, along with a large flat-screen TV, safe, and desk.

The Lagoon Pool is a nice place to relax, with waterfalls and whirlpools and is surrounded by palm trees, with lots of loungers and cabanas. There is a theatre, comedy club and live music venue. Dining options include a casual beachside cafe, Bacio Italian Restaurant, Robert Irwin’s Public House and Red Lotus Asian Kitchen. Resort fee is $37 per night.

The Best Hotels On The Las Vegas Strip

Stretch the budget a bit more and you can stay right in the middle of the Strip at Paris Las Vegas*. It is in a great location that is an easy walk to the main sights. With its own versions of the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre, the hotel has gone perfectly with the Paris theme. And of course there’s the Eiffel Tower – it has a large octagonal swimming pool under one foot.

I stayed in a spacious corner room, which was done up in Versailles-era French style, with antique-look dark wood furniture, gold and blue decor, and a pink marble bathroom. Although the rooms aren’t the most modern, they come with coffee makers and fridges, and I had armchairs next to the window, making the most of the view opposite the Bellagio fountains.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris is home to the Château nightclub on the lower deck and a restaurant and observation deck on the top. The resort has a total of 15 restaurants, including a Gordon Ramsey Steakhouse, East Coast Italian, Rooftop Bar & Grill, Parisian Creperie, and Mon Ami Gabi Bistro, which overlooks the Strip. Resort fee is $37 per night.
