Places To Eat In Destin – Gus and Kim’s Adventures go where to eat Gus and Kim’s Adventures: Top 10 Places to Eat in Destin (2018)

We have been vacationing in the Destin, Florida area since 1998. This is our favorite place, and one day, we hope to retire nearby. Since we’ve spent a lot of time in the area, I thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite places to eat. This post was originally written in 2013, so I’ve updated it for 2018!

Places To Eat In Destin

If we could eat out just once on vacation, it would be at the Port. The food is out of this world, and you have a great view of Destin Harbor. We have been eating here for 12+ years and enjoy it as much as we did then.

Best Restaurants In Destin, Fl For 2023 (top Eats!)

It can be a bit pricey depending on what you order, but it’s worth every penny. If you only go to one place on my list – this is the one you should choose. And if they have bread pudding for dessert, you have to try it! Lunch is also amazing!

This restaurant is not in Destin, but is within easy driving distance. Besides, you should visit Seaside anyway! Owned by Chef Jim Shirley, it sits right in the middle of the Beach, and we recommend sitting outside on the covered deck where you can watch all the action. You can read the full review at Adventures of Gus and Kim: Lunch at the Beach – Great Southern Cafe.

I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu, but I absolutely love anything made with grits!

Winner of Best Breakfast 11 years in a row, – and it’s easy to see (taste) why. This is one of our favorite breakfast spots, and we sometimes eat here more than once during the holidays. There are two locations in the Destin area, but you can find us on Grand Boulevard. You can read more in my review, The Adventures of Gus and Kim: Breakfast in Destin – Another Broken Egg Cafe.

Incredible Restaurants You Should Try On The Destin Harbor

Grimaldi’s opened their first location under the Brooklyn Bridge in 1990. Their pizzas are New York style (obviously), and are baked in coal-fired brick ovens to give them a crispy crust. My favorite! The place we visited is located in the center of Town on Grand Boulevard in Miramar Beach, right next to Sandestin. In fact, if you live in Sandestin and have a golf cart, you can drive to Grand Boulevard without ever leaving the highway. Well, you can do that with your car, too, but you get what I’m saying, right? And how attractive is the decor?

Gus would eat pizza every day if he could. I’m a bit picky. But we both love this pizza so much that we sometimes get more than one when we’re in Destin. And the desserts…yum. You can read my full review at Gus and Kim’s Adventures: Dinner at Miramar Beach – Grimaldi’s Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria.

This is another restaurant owned by Chef Jim Shirley. And we love this place as much as we love the Great Southern Cafe. You can read my full review at Gus and Kim’s Adventures: Lunch in Destin-The Bay.

We usually stay on the bay side of the building, which offers great views. They have a great outdoor seating area on the sand around the fire pit!

We used to eat at Harry T’s when it was at the Yacht Club – now in Harborwalk Village, right on Destin Harbor – so you could watch all the boats come and go. You can’t beat the view, and the food is good typical “bar food”. But for us, the view makes eating here worth it.

It’s a little pricey, but I think you have to pay for the view! They have really good sundaes if you want to share dessert. And they sell some pretty cool t-shirts, too.

This is a new favorite of ours and I can’t believe it took us so long to try it! We have lived in Sandestin for many years, and used to drive by the Linkide Convention Center with the Sunset Bay Cafe sign. I think we probably thought it was for the business crowd. Well, you know what happens when you think! You can read my full review at Gus and Kim’s Adventures: Breakfast at Destin-Sunset Bay Cafe.

This is probably one of the most popular places in Destin. And can you believe we vacationed in Destin for 15+ years before we tried it? It’s undeniably a fun place, but be prepared for a lot of noise. The inside is covered in signed one dollar bills! We were there in the evening and it was very dark inside – so I apologize for the quality of the photos below. I have to come back at lunch to get better pictures!

Where To Eat In Destin, Fl

There’s only one thing to find – Irish boxes! Here’s a description from the menu: “An old Irish favorite, “Box on the griddle, box on the pan; if you can’t make a boxty, you’ll never find a man” and Flash Fried. Served with Salsa, Guacamole Dip and Horse Radish Sour Cream Sauce”. Um, yes, please!! And you’ll have to forget any kind of food that follows because this place is made of carbs!

They also have a brewery on site. So yes, I need to go back and sample more brews. I had McGuire’s Irish Red and it was great with boxtys.

There are two Dewey Destin’s locations, but we only ate at the Harborside location. If you get a seat at the desk, you get a nice view like the one below.

We always get amberjack when we are there. Often it is the fish of the day. At one point the waiter told us that it had just been delivered that morning. You can’t get more refreshing than that!

Celebrity Chefs In Destin And South Walton

There are two locations in the Destin area, but we go to the one at Grand Boulevard Town Center in Miramar Beach. It’s funny, because I originally agreed to go here because of the beer menu. I’m not a burger person (it’s a texture thing), but when I found out I like the burgers here, I was as surprised as Gus!

I love the vibe here. I don’t know if the other place has the same vibe, but this is just kind of laid back and looks like a cool neighborhood bar. I love that. And I love that they have a great beer selection (we try to drink local beer or at least Florida beer when we’re in Florida).

(Note: The last time we were in Destin, there was a Craft Bar on 30A in Grayton Beach. However, it’s not listed on the Craft Bar website, so I don’t know if it’s still there or not.)

They don’t have a website, but they probably don’t need one. This is another place that is always full. There are three locations, but we usually eat at the one in Santa Rosa Beach. It’s bigger than the one in Destin, and the parking lot is much better. When we first vacationed in Destin, we often ate in the Destin area.

We made it for both breakfast and lunch – and the donuts (and other baked goods) are delicious! Arrive early to get the best selection!

Baked beef in a mushroom/veal sauce with Prosciutto Di Parma and fresh melted mozzarella cheese and pasta.

It was small and cost $14. It was good, but I say
