If there’s a big show or conference in town, hotel prices can skyrocket, so check the event listings as well.

The casino has several dining options, including a microbrewery, grill, cafe, and a Starbucks that is great for breakfast. There is also a swimming pool under the tower (get there early as there are not many sunbeds). This is the best location to watch people jump from the top. The resort fee is $36 per night, and hotel guests get access to the tower observation deck at half price (usually $25).

If you have more money to spend, head to the vintage-style Tropicana* at the southern end of the Strip. It’s one of the few original 1950’s casinos, and while current owner Hilton has renovated it, it still has a retro entrance complete with a vintage Chevy.

The lagoon pool is a great place to relax as it has a waterfall and whirlpool and is surrounded by palm trees with plenty of loungers and cabanas. There are theaters, comedy clubs and live music venues. Food options include casual beach cafe, Bacio Italian restaurant, Robert Irvine’s Public House and Red Lotus Asian Kitchen. The resort fee is $37 per night.

Budget a little more and you can stay in the heart of the Strip in Paris Las Vegas*. Great location with easy walking distance to major attractions. The hotel makes full use of the Parisian theme with its own version of the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre. And of course there is the Eiffel Tower. There is a large octagonal swimming pool under one of the bridges.

I stayed in a huge corner room decorated in the French style of the Versailles era, with antique dark wood furnishings, gold and blue décor, and a pink marble bathroom. The rooms aren’t the most modern, but they do come with coffee makers and refrigerators, and there’s an armchair by my window to make the most of the view of the Bellagio fountains across the street.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris has a chateau nightclub on the lower floor and a restaurant and observation deck on the top floor. The resort has 15 restaurants, including Gordon Ramsey Steakhouse, East Coast Italian, Rooftop Bar and Grill, Parisian Crepes and Mon Ami Gabi Bistro overlooking the Strip. The resort fee is $37 per night.

The Bellagio* may not be the most luxurious hotel on the Strip, but to me it’s classic Las Vegas. I have a feeling we’ll still see Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr supporting the bar. The resort is one of the largest resorts on the strip with nearly 4000 rooms, but the service won’t know it because of the high staff-to-guest ratio.
