Sea World is a marine theme park in San Diego, California. It first opened its doors in 1964 and has remained at the cutting edge of animal training ever since.
Sea World is famous for its long-running Shamu shows, where killer whales leap out of the water and perform tricks with their trainers.

Beyond this most iconic show, Sea World offers a wide variety of other entertainment options. There are rides and water shows, animal habitats and educational opportunities galore. The park offers something for everyone from children to adults!
Sea World San Diego consists of several areas that contain a wide range of exhibits with marine animals and marine mammals from around the world. There are also many attractions, rides and shows.
Before we get into the fun stuff, here’s some general information about the park that’s important to know before you go!

Seaworld San Diego Reopens This Weekend
Effective June 15, 2021, Sea World San Diego has lifted all state visitor restrictions. Here’s what their website says:
Based on the recently announced guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control, we are changing our policy regarding face coverings at SeaWorld San Diego and Aquatica San Diego. Face coverings will no longer be required for guests who are fully vaccinated in accordance with CDC guidance. We will not require our guests to provide proof of vaccination, but ask everyone to respectfully comply with our revised policy. The safety of our guests, ambassadors and animals in our care remains our top priority. We will monitor and address this changing environment as necessary.
If you plan to park your car at Sea World San Diego, there is parking available on site. Parking rates range from $22 for general parking to $80 for VIP parking.
Because Sea World San Diego is so large, it’s important to have a map of the park before you go. I like to look at the map before our trip and have a plan about which direction we want to go first. It helps to save time at the parka and ensures that we can fit everything! Here is a map of the current park.

While this park map is helpful, I also recommend downloading the official Sea World San Diego app on your phone before you go. It is very helpful! If you don’t have a smart phone, there are also maps at the front gate of the park and in all countries when you enter.
So you are finally ready to make the trip and see Sea World San Diego. What do you need to know before you get in line for Shamu? Here are some of my top tips for visiting Sea World with kids!
Even though there is a lot going on at Sea World, it can still be overwhelming to look at the park schedule and try to figure out when and where everything is happening. To keep it simple, pick a few must-sees like one of the shows or a ride you really want to go on and then plan your day around them.
Keep in mind that Sea World San Diego sits right next to the Pacific Ocean. This means that the weather can be unpredictable and sometimes cold!
San Diego Seaworld: New Roller Coaster Plans Take Shape
Make sure to pack a jacket no matter what time of year you go because it can get breezy or rainy on you while visiting Sea World San Diego. If it’s hot, make sure you wear plenty of sunscreen and bring plenty of water with you.
Sea World San Diego is a huge park, and it’s easy to get tired walking around. Pack some comfortable but cute shoes that will also be good for walking on the concrete all day.
If youare planning to purchase merchandise or food while at Sea World San Diego, you may want to bring a small backpack with you. This is an easy way to carry items that you can collect throughout the day, and you can store your coats there until you need them!
With many attractions and activities at once, Sea World San Diego can get quite busy. The park does a good job of handling the crowds and keeping everyone safe, however wait times can be long for certain rides. Just make sure you plan your day around the ride guards and make sure you have everything set up before you get in line.

Sea World San Diego is mostly contactless when it comes to payment options at the park. However, I find it useful to take a little money with me if possible. It never fails that I have to use it to buy a small snack or tip someone.

While my family can always accomplish the attractions and shows we wanted to see at Sea World in one day, you might want to consider two days if you want to take a more leisurely approach to your day or ride the thrill rides multiple times.
If youare looking for great weather when you go to Sea World, I recommend visiting in the summer or spring months. If you want fewer crowds, January, February, September or November are the best months to go to Sea World San Diego.
October is also a great time to visit. Most years, San Diego attractions offer free admission for children in October, which can be a great money saver, but can also increase crowd size. Another reason to visit in October would be for the Sea World Spooktacular event held weekends from September 18 – October 31, 2021.

The weather at Sea World San Diego can be very hot during the summer and early fall months, so make sure to dress for it! Bring a sweatshirt or light jacket as the evenings can get chilly. Don’t forget your sun block and sunglasses either. As for footwear, sneakers are recommended, unless you plan to water ride (in which case flip flops are recommended).

Sea World San Diego has a wide range of rides for different ages. There are cars and boats you can ride in, ski rides where you float high above the park, and even coasters for thrill seekers.
