The Wynn is one of many luxury hotels, with high rates to match the luxury. It has to be seen to be believed, but there’s a reason Steve Wynn is so proud to affix his name in giant letters to the gleaming exterior.

The best value on the band happens to be in the southern part of the band. The Excalibur is often the cheapest hotel with easy access to other strip casino hotels, and if you don’t mind the occasional kid running past your blackjack table, it’s one of the top rated hotels in Las Vegas. The same can be said for New York New York, while Luxor is just as good value as Excalibur, but with a nicer interior, better buffet and giant spotlights above.

There are many more Las Vegas hotels on the strip, each offering the same thing, but with a different theme to draw your attention. Circus Circus doesn’t sound like its name, but it’s a good deal and further away from the strip’s mainstream crowd. The Stratosphere tries to look futuristic, but in a strange way that the imagined future looked to designers in the 50s.

The Fremont Street Experience goes down its namesake street in downtown Vegas. Here you will find some of the finer hotels in Las Vegas, such as the Plaza, Binions and Golden Nugget. Although the quality here is more inconsistent, casinos make millions of dollars on middle-aged tourists who are tired of the strip, and on budget travelers who still want the authentic Vegas experience.

In 2021, Wi-Fi in Vegas hotels should be standard and fitness centers barely worth $40 a day. Boarding passes are mostly mobile these days (or can be printed for free at the airport).

And who makes so many phone calls from their hotel room phone that they still consider this a benefit?

The reality is: Resort fees are a solution for hotels to publish lower rates on hotel booking sites. They charge this later to raise the price.

For example, you can book a night at the Excalibur, part of MGM’s MGM Rewards loyalty program, for just $33 per night during the summer. This is a great deal, even for a low-end hotel located right on the Strip. But wait. The resort fee is $35 per night, which more than doubles your nightly cost.

This fee is also not limited to luxury hotels. You can splurge on a stay at the Cosmopolitan for around $200 per night, but you’ll need to add another $51 per night in resort fees — around a 25% price increase.

Your options are limited if you want to be near the Strip and not pay resort fees. The two major hotel groups, MGM and Caesars, both charge resort fees up and down the Strip.

If you are looking for something that qualifies as a nice or luxury hotel, this is not the place for you. Instead, consider the next option on our list: Marriott’s Grand Chateau.

Best Western does not have a set award chart and prices for award nights can vary. When looking for nights in the summer and fall, we found it as low as 16,000 points for weeknights and as high as 28,000 points on weekends. Cash prices will fluctuate in the same way. We found rooms as cheap as $80 per night, up to almost $300 per night.

If you want to stay in a nice hotel near the Strip and avoid resort fees, you have only one choice: Marriott’s Grand Chateau .

Technically, the Grand Chateau is not on the Strip, but only 0.2 miles away. The hotel is located just one crossing across Harmon Avenue to the Miracle Mile Shops and Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. Easy access to food, shows, gambling and shopping makes this a close location on Jalan Raya.

At the Grand Chateau, you won’t find a casino or any slot machines, which gives it more of a Marriott-resort feel than a Las Vegas casino feel. The hotel is part of the Marriott Vacation Club, but is open for reservations by anyone — member or not. Here, you will find not only standard hotel guest rooms,
