The island offers many places to eat, so I want to share some of my favorites so you don’t miss them when you visit.

When it comes to the best place to eat in Kauai, Dukes is it! Get Tacos and Hula Pie, and all the goodies!

The Ramen, Ribeye, and Goat Cheese Mashed Potatoes are a must eat at 1849 Restaurant in Kauai.

Our favorite Shave Ice on the island of Kauai is Wailua Shave Ice on the North side, and Fresh Shave on the South. Get Potion No 9, or really anything on the menu.

Classic sports bar feel with amazing food. Get coconut shrimp, fried carne asada, and any fish with macadamia nuts.

Duke’s- Make this your first stop on the island. It’s only 5 minutes from Lihue Airport, and offers free Valet Parking, making it the perfect place to grab a drink and a meal after a long flight.

You’ll feel like you’re in the middle of a tropical forest, with a gorgeous pool, and plenty of tiki fun!

Update: Since I first wrote this post, I have eaten at Duke several times. It’s my favorite place! If you want to sit in the dining room, instead of the bare bar, make sure you call ahead for a reservation, and ask for a table with an ocean view!

Where To Stay In Kauai

When you’re on vacation it’s important to go out for at least one meal, and if you’re visiting Kauai it would be a disaster if you didn’t go to 1849 Restaurant.

Everyone who has a mouth is blessed. The decoration is very pleasant. the kitchen is open, which I always think is great, and there are amazing views.

If you want a good shave, call Fresh Shave. It’s fresh, it’s delicious. And it’s very good. My favorite is Whiskers. It has lemon and mint syrup and yummy! But the daily special is very good. Honestly, you probably can’t go wrong ordering from here. Fruits and vegetables are amazing. And they are fun too, you get a sticker mustache on a straw, and you can get some stickers too!

The Beach House is located next to Duke’s on Rice Street, and is actually not on our planned dining route.

But we stopped in one night to catch up. I ordered the Aloha Burger which has pineapple and teriyaki sauce. And it was crazy. I covered him. Very good. Another day we went on a helicopter tour, and the pick up point was close by, so we stopped again for breakfast.

If you want classic Hawaiian get Loco Moco. It’s a really fun place that’s under $10 and exactly what you want from a beach hut that serves food!

Unfortunately, every time I ate there I was hungry and went straight to look for food, leaving my camera in my bag!

I love Hukilau Lanai, it’s fun, and it’s a classic player.

Plus they have a great history. This restaurant opened in 2002 and was bought by two owners (The Millers) nine years later.

They still employ the same people who started the restaurant 14 years ago. They use local ingredients, and a delicious twist. And the views are so amazing.

If your favorite sports team is playing, or you just want a fun atmosphere, stop by Kalapaki Joe’s. They provide live music, and you will feel like family with greetings, hugs, and lots of food.

During our visit to Kauai we went on a tour with the Keoki staff. They took us to O.K. King Farms to see where most of their fresh produce is grown right on the island.

It was a wonderful day. We ate fresh from the farm, and learned a lot about farming and seeing where our dinner came from.

The Thai grilled shrimp dish is amazing. The crab cakes were amazing. The host, chef and servers were accommodating, and served my favorite drink on the entire island – The Poipu Pina! Hmmm.

As we were planning our trip to Kauai I read a lot of reviews about where to eat. Merriman’s was a regular on the list. Merriman’s Fish House offers great views, fresh fish, live music, and beautiful decor. We love cork board menus! The new ones were portable. And the place is amazing.

What’s an island visit without a Luau? If you are on Kauai the Luau to visit is Aulii. Not only is it in a beautiful beach area, with interesting dances, the food is good.

But I enjoyed the offerings at Aulii. The show was amazing, and the sunset (pictured above) was amazing. It was indeed a night to remember.

This is not a restaurant. It’s a jam shop that serves cakes and things too. This would be a good place to stop for breakfast. Or sweets. You can taste all the homemade food, and come with a food craving, but leave room in your checked bag because you’ll definitely want to take some jam home!

Another popular item is their chirashi bowl. At $11.95, generous with fresh sashimi and other seafood, it might be the best deal on the island.

If you want to try all of Hawaii’s classics in one place head to Pono. From poi and different types of poke to lau lau and plate lunches, it’s all here. Go early as they tend to sell the best items by noon. You have to line up and order your food at the restaurant, pay, wait for it and either eat it in the small dining room at the hotel or – highly recommended – take it to the beautiful beach white sand nearby and find. a picnic.
