Trying hot chicken is a must in Nashville. The juicy meat is marinated, mixed with flour and fried. But the final steps are what sets it apart from other fried chicken.

Just before serving, cayenne pepper sauce is added to the hot chicken before it is placed neatly between a slice of white bread and pickles. Depending on your request, the sauce can vary from mild to sweet-Jesus-this-is-spicy. Add black-eyed peas, baked beans, French fries, or pimento mac-and-cheese and you’re good to go.

Prince’s Hot Chicken is the original place to try the hot chicken dish in Nashville. They have been making it delicious and at home for over 70 years. Bolton’s also comes highly recommended. My pick is Hattie B’s, which has quickly become a local staple.

Centennial Park is home to a full-scale replica of the Parthenon, originally built in 1897. Now an art museum, it houses a group of paintings by American artists of the 19th and 20th centuries and provides space for temporary exhibitions.

The centerpiece of the building is a magnificent 42-foot tall statue of Athena covered in gold leaf, as it would have been in the Parthenon in Athens. Not exactly an expected sight in South America.

On our first trip, the Nashville native told us that the only honky tonk on Broadway that locals go to is Robert’s Western. We can’t confirm it, but the recommendation made us change our plans and head to the place with the boots and guitar brand.
